If you're wondering how to spend your nights at Emerald City next month, here's a possibility: going to see Guardians of the Sexy: A Geeky Celebration in Burlesque.
If you're not a burlesque aficionado, be assured that it's not a bunch of lunch hour strippers tassling you into second-hand embarrassment. The burlesque revival tends to focus more on artful and suggestive performances, with a much wider range of performers than you'd see elsewhere. Or as ECCC puts it: "Our mission, should you choose to accept it, is defending the sexiness of all nerds regardless of gender, sexual orientation, body type, race or ability."
As you might expect, this particular show promises to explore "what happens when fandom and burlesque meet live on stage," presided over by Jo Jo Stiletto, Professor of Nerdlesque. You have your choice of four shows:
Friday, 27 March: 7:30 pm and 10:15 pm
Saturday, 28 March: 7:30 pm and 10:15 pm
General admission is $25, while $45 gets you VIP Admission - a seat in the first two rows and a gift from sponsor Espionage Cosmetics. Tickets are on sale now.
I feel sure Lily St. Cyr would approve.
