18 JUNE 2013
Last year (or maybe the year before), Comic Con premiered the Comic Creator Connection, which is basically speed dating for writers and artists who want to find their perfect collaborative match. You get 5 minutes to meet each artist/writer and discuss their interests and skill sets, and then at the end of the night, you provide your contact information to whoever struck you as having the right collaborative chemistry.
The catch: you must have a badge for the applicable days, Thursday and Friday. Artists can sign up for both days; writers can only sign up for one, given that we tend to multiply like rabbits.
Session I - Room 29B
Thursday, 18 July
7:00 - 9:00 pm
Session II - Room 29B
Friday, 19 July
7:00 - 9:00 pm
You should bring business cards and at least 20 copies of a one-page sample with your contact info on it. Make sure your portfolio URL and LinkedIn are included and have your best pitch ready. And if you're nervous or inexperienced in that, Comic Con is ready to help; they're holding Comic Pitch Review in the same room from 5:00 - 6:00 pm to help you practice your pitching skills via some free individual coaching. Given how awful most artists and writers tend to be at promoting themselves, this alone could make the whole shebang worth your time.
This is Comic Con, so signing up in advance is highly recommended, which you can do by emailing programs@comic-con.org.
