30 OCTOBER 2012
Happy early Halloween, Samhain and Dia de los Muertos. Here's some celebratory news that shouldn't be all that astonishing: Comic Con is staying in San Diego through 2016.
CCI was already contracted through 2015; this just adds another year to that guarantee while Anaheim and possibly Vegas beckon beyond that with their alluringly large convention centers. I won't bore you with all the municipal behind-the-scenes shenanigans, but the general efforts to which San Diego is going to hang onto the Con are dogged, to say the least. At this point, I just can't see CCI leaving town - but I also can't see the convention center expansion accommodating a truly massive rise in attendees.
I suppose more factors will come into play and clarify it all over the next few years. For now, we know where we're sleeping and drinking and standing in line every July for the next four years.
